Hey Everyone,

Well, here is a new update.  I have been remiss in getting this out to you but I have been running around like a crazy person the last couple of months.

It all started on my birthday, June 10th.  I did a concert with Branscombe Richmond and his band, The Renegade Posse, at RIP'S BAD RIDE.  It is a very cool event.  RIP'S BAD RIDE is raising money and awareness for diabetes.  I am diabetic so this seemed like the right thing for me to get involved in.  It was a great afternoon down south.

On June 24th I had the pleasure of hosting my own ride again.  I do the Mickey Jones Poker Run for CHOC, Children's Hospital of Orange County.

Last year was the first year and I was hoping for a couple of hundred motorcycles.  We got over 900.  This year I was hoping we could double that number.  This year we had just over 2000 bikes.  It was the best.  We checked in at Sloppy Joe's in the Irvine Spectrum.  We did around a 100 mile ride including stops at Cook's Corner and even a stop at Children's Hospital of Orange County before ending up back at Sloppy Joe's and a concert by 2000 Pounds of Blues.  We were also entertained by the Victor McLaughlin Motorcycle Drill Team.  They are great and I thank them very much for all their support.  The stop at the hospital was incredible.  We were told that when all these motorcycles started arriving at the hospital kids were at the windows checking out the bikes.  A lot of the kids were able to come down to the lobby and hang out with the bikers for a while.  One of the gals, on the ride, made little bandanas for the kids.  We put them on the kids, I pinned them and made them official bikers.

These kids were very excited.  It was more than a little emotional for me and everyone who participated.  My friend, Fred Miller, who works with The Bobby Sherman EMT Foundation as a paramedic,  came and provided emergency services along the poker run route.  I owe a big thank you to Fred for taking his whole day to help the kids.  THANKS FRED!  By buds, April, Vicki and Pam came out to support us as well.  I can't thank them enough.  They took photos and had a great time. (You can see some of those photos here)  THANKS GIRLS!  I also need to pay a special tribute to Sandie Moore for all the hard work she put out on the event.  She is truly the honcho behind the scenes.  She and her guy Ed put out all the efforts to make this event the success it was.  She has big plans for next year.  It is going to be bigger and better than ever.

We are going to have vendors after the ride and then proceed into a full scale blues festival that could go on all night.  One last thing about the event.  As I said, the hospital stop was absolutely unbelievable.  On a final note and I think I can speak for all the bikers involved, we get more out of it than the kids.  I will never let go of the feelings of that day.  Thanks to all of you who were part of something that special.  We'll do it again next year.

On June 28th, Phyllis and I got a chance to take a little vacation.  We spent a week in the West Indies doing a lot of relaxing and a little bit of golf.  It was a golf tournament but more relaxing that golfing.  It was great.  We were on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.  It is just north of Trinidad which is off the coast of Venezuela.  The island is beautiful and the people are wonderful.  They were very polite and friendly.  That is a rarity in some of the Caribbean islands.  It's a long way so you have to really want to go but the long trip was worth it.

July started with a bang.  I traveled to Gilroy, CA to take part in a small part of something pretty special.  As you know Gilroy is the home of Indian Motorcycle.  A number of bikers rode Indians from Springfield, MASS across country to Gilroy, CA.  The ride was to officially tie the old Indian factory in Springfield together with the new factory in Gilroy.  The ride culminated and rode into Gilroy on the 4th of July.  Ray Sotelo, the founder of Indian Motorcycle along with, Branscombe Richmond and myself joined the group for the ride into Gilroy.  It was amazing.  I joined Branscommbe and his Renegade Posse for a concert that night on the streets of Gilroy.

The weekend of July 14 - 17 I went to Minneapolis, MN for my friend Jim Marshall.  Jim had been in a severe car crash just before the tournament and released himself from the hospital for the event.  He was hurting but he was there.  Jim was a member of the original Purple People Eaters.  They were the front line of the greatest Viking team ever.  A lot of the former Vikings were there.  I hung out with Joe Kapp, Gary Larsen, Carl Eller and others.  Now I need to tell you that my sister-in-law, Cathye, who lives in Las Vegas is the biggest Viking fan ever.  I never understood that because she has never lived in Minnesota or even been there for that matter but never the less, she is a huge fan of those classic Vikings.  I never ask anyone for autographs but at this event I made an exception.  I got the program with all the Vikings at the event signed by everyone.  I even got a classic photo of the Purple People Eaters signed by all four of the guys.  That was quite a feat because Alan Paige is now the Supreme Court Justice for the state of Minnesota.  He has to be very careful about the events he attends.  Well, he was at the final dinner.  Jim Marshall introduced me to Alan and he signed the photo for Cathye.  That was the final autograph.  The few who have that photo signed by all four guys is worth a lot of dough.  I was a great weekend and I thank everyone involved.

As soon as I got home, I got a call from my good friend, James Hampton.  You will remember Jim as Dobbs, the bugler on the classic TV series, "F Troop".  He was also Michael J. Fox's dad in the film "Teen Wolf".  He became a producer, writer and director of Burt Reynolds, "Evening Shade".  Well, back to my story.  Jim called me and asked me to come with him and Pat Boone to donate some blood for the American Red Cross.  I said, "sure".  We went to Pat's home and went down together.  At the blood drive were some other friends.  Check out this photo.  It includes Bo Hopkins from "American Graffiti" and "The Wild Bunch", Casey Kasem of radio fame, there's James Hampton and Pat Boone, David Leisure, who is famous as Joe Isuzu, the spokesman for Isuzu Automobiles and yours truly.  A pretty good group doing something good for others.  Boy, that feels good, despite the needle.

My son and I went down to the Samson Exhaust Factory and he got outfitted with the Ripsaw Ground Pounder exhaust system.  I took a photo with Kenny Price, the president of Samson.  You can click here and go to their website.  Check it out, you'll be glad you did.

That should do it for a while.  Thanks again to everyone, especially April.  Without April, none of us would be able to do any of this.  Thanks April.  I love you.
