Oct.1, 1999
Hey Everybody,
Today is September 30, 1999. I had my surgery on my right knee this
morning. It was out-patient surgery so I am back home tonight. I arrived
at the Motion Picture Hospital at 6 AM. After getting my room and losing
all my clothes, I waited for the wheelchair to take me to OR Prep. It was
there that I got an IV placed in my right hand and met with the
anesthesiologist. I wanted this guy to do a great job because I wanted to
wake up later. He must have done a good job because here I am writing to
you all. My doctor was Evan Bachner from West Hills Orthopedic. He must
have done a great job too because I have had no pain today at all. He even
gave me still color photos and a video of the operation. It's actually
pretty cool. I'll send the photos to April and maybe she can put them up on
the site. The Doc said no driving for 7 days and I may not get to go to the
Susan Anton Celebrity Golf Tournament in Charlotte, NC on October 10th.
We'll just have to play that by ear. I hope I can make it.
I just got back yesterday from Atlanta, GA where I played in The
Invitational Celebrity Golf Tournament. It was a wonderful event. It was
hosted by country singer, John Berry. Some of the other celebrities
included former Atlanta Falcon coach, Leeman Bennett, a great Nashville
songwriter, Jim Collins, the great guitar player from the Blues Brothers
band, Steve Cropper and his lovely wife Angel who can really sing, all star
pitcher from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jay Howell, and Olympic Gold Medal
winner, Steve Lundquist. Jerry Seinfeld' father on the show, Morty Seinfeld
played by Barney Martin was there. Mike McGuire and Curtis Wright from the
great group Shenandoah was there. Tom Wiggans from "As The World Turns" and
Bertie Higgans, singer, songwriter with such hits as "Key Largo" and
"Redneck Riviera" was also in attendance. Rudy Gatlin of the Gatlin
Brothers, Phil Neikro the famous knuckle ball pitcher and Indy car driver,
Tom Sneva was there as well. It was a pretty full field of celebrities. I
have some photos from Atlanta that I will send to April and hopefully we can
get them up here is the latest update.
I think the highlight of the event was the all-star jam on Tuesday night.
It included the boys from Shenandoah, Jim Collins, a wonderful singer named
Tabitha and Steve Cropper. I played my guitar and did a couple of songs on
the show but it was especially fun for me to play drums with Steve Cropper.
I played golf with Steve and Angel on Monday. Angel was the surprise of the
tournament. She is a scratch golfer. I love it when I get to play with a
lady that can really play. Well, Angel can REALLY play.
Well, that's it for now. I'll keep you posted on the knee progress and the
next event at the end of October. It's a big celebrity golf tournament in
Las Vegas. The Resort at Summerlin is the host. My wife, Phyllis and I
will be there and we both look forward to that.
Until next time, love you all,
Mickey

I recently was on the ABC lot and visited the set of General Hospital. It was great fun because I got the chance to catch up with my old friend, Billy Warlock. Billy is a great guy. We first met on the show Bay Watch. Billy and his then girlfriend Erica were doing their last episode for the show and Pamela Anderson had just left Home Improvement and joined the cast of Bay Watch. As I said, it was their final episode and it was Pamela's first episode. It was a lot of fun for me because I got to play the baddest guy around. Bill McKinney, one of the mountain men from Deliverance and I played sort of the same characters. We were these gold dredgers and not very nice guys. Pamela came to me the first day of shooting, gave me a big hug and said, "I'm so glad to see a friendly face". She was a little nervous on the new show.
Long story short, it was great to see Billy and reminisce about old times. Great to see you Billy, you're the best.

The signatures on the photo read as follows:
To Mickey, definitely the worst drummer in U.S.A.! Paul McCartney (I'm only joking!)
To Mickey, Best Wishes from The Beatles, Ringo Starr
To Mickey, me cockney good time lad from, John Lennon
To Mickey, Best Wishes from George Harrison
In 1963, while I was the drummer with Trini Lopez, we worked The Olympia Theatre in Paris with the Boys. We became very good friends and saw each other a number of times over the years. This photo was from The Olympia Theatre in Paris, 1963. I have a photo with the boys that was taken for them. I will try to get that one for the site as well.
Till next time, all the best and God Bless!
Mickey
